About Us

WHY THIS FOUNDATION

The nonprofit foundation was initiated upon return from a trip overseas by a member of our Board of Directors who recognized that the despair on the faces of young men and women to survive their daily living, was noticeably quite evident. What was quite interesting and hopeful, however, was the desires of young boys and girls at the primary school levels to learn. They were an extraordinarily curious bunch. On the contrary, young boys in their late or post teen ages, appeared hopelessly struggling to survive, and seemed to lack a clear direction of their lives. What was found startling were the number of young black males specifically, and this seemed to be worldwide, in the age category described above, who had failed their lives and had given up hope. It's not uncommon to see disparities in many aspects of lives for the black males, in the post-secondary school population and in the workforce, for meaningful jobs.

Young boys and girls, and especially young black males are failing and gradually falling behind. They do not seem to have a strong advocate in most societies; the streaming from the airwaves of various acts associated with criminal behavior has complicated the lives of the young black males, and will affect the young boys and girls in the primary and secondary schools on how they cope with this dilemma, and how they see themselves.

The opinions on the reasons for the problems which face these young men are many and you can take your pick. They include the history of slavery, discrimination, the environment they live in, lack of a stable household, the Hip Hop culture, demographic changes and lack of mentorship, etc.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide the equivalent levels of educational opportunities and life experiences to the underserved youths in the primary and secondary schools as those in the more opulent communities. We plan to achieve this by providing the underserved schools with the resources they need to reach their potentials and lifelong goals. Our mission is guided by the following principle:

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed". Booker T Washington

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Global Foundation to Upgrade Underserved Primary and Secondary Schools (GFUUPSS), is a Global nonprofit organization formed to serve primary and secondary school children in underserved communities. Whether young boys and girls live in the ghettos, barrios, rural communities or in a very poor neighborhood, our goals are the same to attempt to make their experiences more rewarding and to bring out the best in them. We believe that every child, though faced with academic challenges, can achieve academic excellence.

AN APPROACH TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES FACING YOUNG BOYS AND GIRLS IN UNDERSERVED SCHOOLS

In order to address the issues facing young boys and girls, a competent Board of Directors was assembled to support the Vision and the Statement of Purpose delineated by the nonprofit. The Board of Directors would be augmented by an Advisory Board, a visionary and think tank group, which would come up with ideas to be implemented by the Board of directors. The Advisory Group would emphasize the HOW, WHEN, WHY, WHERE common sense solution, a collection of in-the-box-and-out-of-the-box solutions to issues facing youths in underserved schools.

The Board of Directors will consider the inclusion of at least 2 members from overseas on its Board, to meet the intent of the nonprofit global diversity. Any such members must support the vision of the nonprofit, abide by its bylaws, US Laws and provide the necessary information required by the Board of Directors for review of his/her application for membership. The Board of Directors is aware that distance and language may be a prohibitive factor but will address them as they arise.
